These are the reactions of Karen Davila and Bianca Gonzalez to the lewd remarks.
Famous personalities Karen Davila and Bianca Gonzalez have these reactions to the controversial remarks of Bong Suntay.
In a previous article, Quezon City 4th district Rep. Jesus “Bong” Suntay’s remarks about Anne Curtis went viral online. It created tension at the House Committee on Justice as lawmakers debated whether to remove controversial remarks made by him. This was a hearing on the impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Suntay defended his remarks about the actress, saying, “There is nothing sexual in what I said, nothing immoral. It’s just, I said, I imagined something. I think there is nothing wrong.”
Manila 6th District Rep. Bienvenido Abante Jr. insisted that the remarks be removed from the official record, as he seconded the prior motion of Committee Vice Chairperson San Juan City lone district Rep. Ysabel Maria Zamora, who explained that this is also a reminder to the members to refrain from making such comments, especially in Women’s Month.
People online reacted to this, including famous personalities Karen Davila and Bianca Gonzalez.
On X (formerly Twitter), Davila expressed the irony of how someone who is regarded as a congressman, a representative of the people, paid by the people, a husband, and a father with daughters can say such remarks.
Lawmakers are expected to uphold professionalism and sensitivity at all times, but with what Suntay has done, it sparked calls for accountability beyond procedural action. She wrote, “Without the consciousness, knowledge or decency of how women should be talked about. Please keep your sick thoughts to yourself. More than striking his comments off the record, he should apologize. Women’s Month pa talaga.”
Gonzalez also lambasted the lewd remarks, calling them disgusting and something that must never be normalized, most especially because of his status as a public servant.
She added that the absence of remorse and the apparent lack of understanding as to why the statement was considered offensive suggest a deeper issue about awareness and accountability.
The female host added that when someone doubles down and says the woman involved “should take it as a compliment,” it can come across as dismissive of how the comment may have made others feel. For her, the failure to acknowledge that difference in perspective is what makes the incident even more troubling.
