Update on Anti-Political Dynasty Bill Proposed by Speaker Bojie Dy, Cong. Sandro Marcos

ANTI-POLITICAL DYNASTY BILL – The House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms approved the proposed measure filed by House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy and presidential son and House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos.

Previously, President Bongbong Marcos revealed the bills that he wants the Congress to give priority to. The said proposed measure includes the one that will set limitations with regards to individuals coming from the families in occupying several government posts.

Marcos Jr. came from a prominent political family himself. According to Malacañang, the Chief Executive wants the following proposed measures prioritized by the Congress:

  • Anti-Dynasty bill
  • Independent People’s Commission Act bill
  • Party-list System Reform Act bill
  • Citizens Access and Disclosure of Expenditures for National Accountability or CADENA Act bill

Aside from Pres. Bongbong Marcos occupying the highest position in the government, his elder sister, Senator Imee Marcos, is also a government officials. Their sons Matthew Marcos Manotoc, son of Senator Imee, and Sandro Marcos, son of the President, are also in public service as vice governor of Ilocos Norte and congressman of the First District of Ilocos Norte, respectively.

Cong. Marcos who is also the House Majority Leader previously filed an anti-political dynasty bill that PBBM wants prioritized. The other proponent of the measure is House Speaker Bojie Dy.

House Speaker Bojie Dy also came from a family with several members in public service. He is married to Mary Ann Arcega, and their son, Faustino “Inno” Dy V, currently serves as mayor of Echague. Another son, Francis Faustino “Kiko” Dy, has held the position of Isabela’s vice governor since 2025.

Today, according to News5, the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms approved the anti-political dynasty bill that Cong. Sandro Marcos and House Speaker Bojie Dy filed. The approved working draft is the House Bill No. 6771 filed by Marcos and Dy.

Based on the post, under the said anti-political dynasty bill, the individuals who have familial relation of up to second-degree of consanguinity o affinity with a sitting government official is prohibited to take a government post. However, some congressmen believes that the scope of the proposed measure is allegedly very limited so they withdrew their support to the bill.

Previously, with his brother, Sen. Raffy Tulfo, being in the Senate, too, Sen. Erwin Tulfo claimed that he supports the anti-political dynasty bill and will resign if it will be passed.
