Another Filipino Hurt As Libya Civil War Escalates
LIBYA – Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said another Filipino got hurt as the ongoing civil war in Libya rages.
Several Filipinos are currently working in Libya. However, there is an ongoing civil war in the country caused by government forces.
The war is between the House of Representatives (HoR) and the General National Congress (GNC).
The two parties aim to control the country and the rich oil in Libya. Since it started in 2014, numerous places have been damaged because of the war.
It has now less business activity, electric outage, and loss in profits from oil by 90%. Aside from that, thousands of people have died from fighting.
Based on a report from Inquirer, 22 Filipinos requested to come home in the Philippines due to the fear of getting involved in the crossfire in Libya said the Philippine Embassy in Tripoli.
The embassy has been asking the Filipinos there to accept the Philippine government’s offer of repatriation.
“We are hoping the number of requests for repatriation would go up. We have received 22 requests so far, including the seven we repatriated a few days ago who have already arrived in Manila,” said the embassy.
According to the report, a Filipino was reported injured amid the escalating civil war in Libya.
Charge d’ Affaires Elmer Cato took to the social media to inform the Philippine Embassy that he received a call from the DFA saying a Filipino worker was wounded.
The Filipino was hurt after a mortar round fell and exploded in their place near the Tripoli International Airport.
Based on the report, the Filipino was working outside Tripoli as an oil and gas service provider. Fortunately, he only obtained a wound in his right foot.
However, his Sudanese co-worker was slain on the explosion.
