Netizens reacted to this recent statement by Sen. Robin Padilla
Senator Robin Padilla said that he graduated from UP, but it is “University of Prison,” and this received comments from netizens.
Padilla started his political career in 2022 when he became the number one senator. His entry to the political arena garnered polarizing comments on social media. His supporters are all-out in rallying behind him in whatever issue.
However, the other group of netizens are criticizing him, especially when he would have controversial statements, just like what he said during the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Senator Robin Padilla admitted that he consulted Google regarding how the presiding officer for the impeachment trial is being assigned, based on the report from Abante News Online.
The actor-politician stressed that Senate President Win Gatchalian should be the presiding officer, and not Senator Chiz Escudero.
Padilla said that he is finding explanations from the search engine to understand the legal information that is the basis of this issue, and to support Senator Pia Cayetano’s position.
“Humingi ako ng tulong sa Google kasi legal terms ito,” Padilla said. Then, the lawmaker had this statement that caught the attention of the online community. “Hindi naman ako nagtapos sa UP… Ateneo. Nagtapos ako ng criminology at UP rin: sa University of Prison,” he said.

The senator also stated that the provision of the Constitution is clear and should not be given a different interpretation.
“Ang batas ay precise, hindi ito puwedeng iba-ibahin o baluktutin. Kung ano ang sinabi lalo ng Saligang Batas ay sana panghawakan natin,” Sen. Robin Padilla said.
Padilla also expressed that he could not understand why Escudero was assigned as the presiding officer of the impeachment court.

“Ang hindi ko maintindihan: bakit ngayon pinipilit natin na ang ating presiding officer ay si Chiz Escudero? Eh bakit hindi natin siya ginawang Senate president noon?” he stressed.
