Awra Briguela Speaks About Viral “Soon To Be Biological Woman” Post

Awra Briguela speaks up, following the criticisms she received.

TV and social media personality Awra Briguela responded after she was criticized for her post about becoming a “biological woman” soon.

The status of the LGBTQ+ community in today’s society is a mix of real progress and ongoing challenges. It’s not one single story, and it varies a lot depending on where you are.

In the Philippines, among the popular LGBTQ+ personalities is Awra Briguela, and just previously, she shared a post that created a loud buzz online and gained mixed reactions from people online.

“hehehe soon to be biological woman,” the caption of the post said, along with her photo where she is holding a brand of sanitary napkin. The post earned criticisms, with some women airing their thoughts that while they have the right to their own identity, it seems misaligned when biology has been used as a reference.

Awra reacted, addressing the critical comments. According to her, the post was meant to be a joke, and she did not expect it to blow up and for people to take it literally and seriously.

“And yes, I’m fully aware of what ‘biological’ means. I wouldn’t joke about something I don’t understand, which is why I didn’t expect people to take it literally. But I also get why some people might have felt a certain way about it. That wasn’t my intention at all,” she wrote.

Awra added that it was not his intention to invalidate women, recognizing their experiences and struggles.

She added, “If it came across differently, then it’s a misunderstanding on how it was received vs. how it was meant. At the end of the day, it was just me being playful online not something meant to hurt anyone. Let’s keep it kind and not turn everything into hate.”

Meanwhile, in a previous article, Awra was rushed to the ER and was diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis. She was also dehydrated. Gastroenteritis is an inflammation that spreads from the stomach to the intestines, causing pain.

She wrote, “After doing lab tests and everything, the final diagnosis is acute gastroenteritis with mild to moderate dehydration—probably from not eating properly these past few days (puro black Americano lang) and kulang sa water.”

Awra is now doing okay and was advised by the doctor to rest.
