The Grab’s statement added, “Every person who uses Grab has the right to feel safe. We will continue to hold ourselves and our driver-partners to that standard, without exception. If any part of your journey falls short of a secure experience, report it immediately through the Grab app’s 24/7 Safety Center so we can take action.”

Manabat condemned the lewd remarks made after what was supposed to be a normal ride, during which she had been courteous and even gave the driver a tip. This only made the incident more distressing for her, adding to the shock and disappointment she felt.

Grab PH investigated the incident, which resulted in the suspension of the driver. He was put under preventive suspension due to a “grave violation and a bannable offense” in accordance with their “driver guidelines.”

Recently, following the buzz the issue created online, Senator Risa Hontiveros reacted and strongly condemned the alleged harassment. She released an official statement and cited the Safe Spaces Act, or Bawal Bastos Law, which states that any form of sexual harassment, whether in public, private, or online, is strictly prohibited.

The senator pointed out that the driver could be held liable for “gender-based online sexual harassment,” an offense that may result in fines or imprisonment. She also stressed that TNVS and PUV drivers have a duty to ensure passenger safety and to act against any form of abusive behavior.
