Motorist Uses Religion to Avoid Illegal Parking Violation

A motorist went viral online after he allegedly tried to use his religion as a reason to avoid an illegal parking violation in Taft Avenue.

The incident involved an encounter between the driver and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Special Operations Group-Strike Force officer Gabriel Go. A video of their conversation quickly spread on social media and gained mixed reactions from netizens.

According to reports, the motorist was caught illegally parked along the roadside. While talking to the traffic enforcer, the driver reportedly mentioned that he was a member of Iglesia ni Cristo, seemingly hoping it would help him avoid the violation.

“Sir, Iglesya naman po ako, sir,” the violator said.

However, Officer Gabriel Go immediately reminded the driver that religion should never be used as an excuse to break traffic rules or avoid responsibility. He calmly explained that faith must be practiced in the proper way and not used to gain special treatment.

The video sparked discussions online about equality before the law and the proper use of religion. Many netizens praised the traffic officer for standing firm and treating everyone equally regardless of status, background, or belief.

At the same time, several people pointed out that the actual religion of the driver has not yet been confirmed despite his statement during the incident. Others also reminded the public not to judge an entire religious group based on the actions of one individual.

Many members and supporters of Iglesia ni Cristo also stressed that their church teaches discipline, respect for the law, and responsible behavior. They explained that the church does not tolerate illegal acts or the misuse of religion for personal advantage.

Meanwhile, authorities continue to remind drivers that traffic rules apply equally to everyone and that no individual is exempt from following the law regardless of religion or affiliation.
