Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte Calls on Filipinos over Next PH Leader
BASTE DUTERTE – The Davao City Mayor made a call for Filipinos in choosing the next president of the Philippines as he cited his father.
The 2028 Elections is still a few years away but Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has already announced that she is running for the president in 2028. The daughter of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte claimed that she realized that her life is not for hers to live alone.
According to the younger Duterte, she admittedly had questions on the weight of the responsibilities of the country’s leader. Her recent announcement came after a previous remark that her father who is currently detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands has given his blessings to her.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte even previously claimed that former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is excited to be her number one supporter and to campaign for her. The former Chief Executive is currently detained under the custody of the ICC since March 2025.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte won as mayor of Davao City in the 2025 Midterm Elections while his youngest son, then-outgoing Davao Mayor Baste Duterte, won the vice mayoralty race. Due to his ICC detention, the younger Duterte served as the acting local chief executive of Davao for several months and was eventually pronounced as its mayor.
The Duterte siblings condemned the arrest and the transfer of the custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Davao Mayor Baste Duterte previously slammed Pres. Bongbong Marcos saying he will “never be loved”. He also stressed that they will fight back.
Recently, ahead of the 2028 Elections, Davao Mayor Baste Duterte called on the Filipinos with regards to the leader to choose. According to News5, the son of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is calling on the people to choose someone who has the same qualities like his father.
“If we choose another leader for the Philippines, then piliin niyo ‘yung tao na kung saan nakikita niyo sa tatay ko,” the Davao Mayor said based on the post.
Previously, the youngest among the Duterte siblings, Kitty Duterte, claimed that their family supports the presidential bid of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in 2028. She also stressed that they are proud of the Vice President.
“VP Sara just announced that she’s running for president this 2028. We talked about that but there’s also this fear inkling for her, of course, she has children who are bata pa,” Kitty Duterte said in The Hague.
