Erwin Tulfo was mentioned by a political analyst
Senator Erwin Tulfo asserted in a recent interview that he will not run for vice president in the 2028 elections.
Tulfo was first known in the world of broadcasting. His political career started when he was appointed as the Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in 2022.
From 2023 to 2025, he served as the representative of ACT-CIS Partylist. In the midterm elections last year, he ran for senator, and he won.
Two years before the 2028 presidential elections, a speculation surfaced that Sen. Erwin Tulfo would bring his political career to a higher level.
Based on the article in Bandera, speculations surfaced that Tulfo will run for vice president as the running mate of former Vice President and incumbent Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, even though she has not yet declared her political plans.
The Senator reiterated that he does not plan to run for a higher position. “Wala po akong plano na tumakbo sa higher office dahil naramdaman ko na yung pressure, yung intriga nung tayo tumakbo nung senador,” he said.
Tulfo is also considering what the effect could be on his family. “Kawawa po pati pamilya ko nadamay, mga anak ko na walang kinalaman so ayaw ko na pumasok sa ganu’n na madamay ang pamilya ko,” the lawmaker said.
He shared that the speculation about the possibility that he will run for vice president started when a political analyst said that his possible tandem with Robredo would defeat Vice President Sara Duterte, who declared last month that she will run for president.
However, in a previous interview, Robredo was asked about her political plan in 2028, as her supporters have been pushing her to run for president. She answered that she would just remain in Naga City, apparently implying that she would not seek the national level.
