Sen. Bong Go Asserts No Filipino Should Be Deprived of Liberty w/out Due Process
BONG GO – The minority Senator spoke on a Senate resolution seeking to protect Filipinos from “extraordinary rendition”.
Currently, the confirmation of charges of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is taking place in The Hague, Netherlands. It is set to run from February 23 to February 27. The former President is represented by his lawyer, Nicholas Kaufman, and six (6) Filipino lawyers who recently joined his ICC legal team.

The International Criminal Court or ICC allowed former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to skip the confirmation of charges hearing. In a letter addressed to the foreign court, the former President claimed that he refuses to recognize the jurisdiction of the court over him.
Furthermore, Duterte also claimed that he is frail and weak. According to him, he has accepted that he might die in prison and he wants the ICC to respect his peace inside the cell where he is placed.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is faced with three (3) counts of murder as alleged crimes against humanity. The ICC has already bared the names of the alleged co-perpetrators of the former President and one of them is supposedly Sen. Bong Go.
Sen. Bong Go was a long-time special assistant of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte before he won a seat in the Senate. The Senator is vocal that Duterte is more than a father to him already. He was one of those who immediately went to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) when the former President was arrested last May 11, 2025.

Recently, Sen. Bong Go spoke about the Senate a resolution that seeks to protect the Filipinos against “extraordinary rendition”. The said reso was filed by the minority bloc. According to News5, the Senator stressed that “no Filipino should be deprived of liberty without due process of law”.
Sen. Bong Go clarified that the Senate Resolution No. 307 which is against the extraordinary rendition of all Filipinos “is not a shield for the powerful, nor is it a refuge for the guilty”. Based on the post, he stressed that it is a reaffirmation of the Filipino people’s equality before the law.

“Hindi lamang po ito nakapaloob sa proceedings ng ICC […] Before any Filipino is brought outside our jurisdiction and subjected to foreign processes, there must first be strict compliance with our Constitution, our laws, and the fundamental requirement of due process,” the Senator said.
Aside from Sen. Bong Go, another government official who was named as an alleged co-perpetrator of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is Sen. Bato dela Rosa who is absent from the Senate sessions since November 11, 2025.
The Senator was the first chief of the Philippine National Police during the tenure of Duterte. Recently, an ethics complaint was filed against Sen. Bato dela Rosa amid his long absence from his Senate duties.
