House Secretary General Confirms Transmission of Impeachment Raps vs. VP Sara Duterte to Speaker’s Office

SARA DUTERTE – The impeachment complaints against the Vice President were transmitted to the office of House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy.

Last February 2, two (2) impeachment complaints were filed against Vice Pres. Duterte before the Office of the Secretary General of the House of Representatives. The first impeachment rap was filed by Makabayan bloc.

In the first impeachment rap against Vice Pres. Duterte, she is accused of alleged betrayal of public trust and gross abuse of discretionary powers regarding the supposed misuse of the P625 million confidential funds of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd).

Shortly after the first impeachment case was filed, Tindig Pilipinas filed the second impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. In the complaint, she’s accused of alleged culpable violations of the Constitution, graft and corruption, bribery, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes.

The second impeachment rap against Vice Pres. Duterte was endorsed by Mamamayang Liberal party-list Rep. Leila de Lima and Akbayan party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña. The filing of the two (2) impeachment complaints came ahead of the lifting of the ban which is today, February 6.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, House Secretary General Cheloy Garafil confirmed that the impeachment complaints against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte have already been transmitted to the Office of House Speaker Bojie Dy. The Speaker now has 10 days to include the matter in the Order of Business.

“Upon receipt and verification of the complaints and their accompanying endorsements, the Office of the Secretary General forwarded the documents to the Office of the Speaker for appropriate action,” the House Secretary General said.

Based on the report, behind one of the impachment complaints filed against the Vice President are Tindig Pilipinas’ Francis “Kiko” Aquino Dee and Sylvia Estrada Claudio, and other civil society leaders. Aquino-Dee is the grandson of the late former Senator Ninoy Aquino Jr. and the late former Pres. Cory Aquino.

Previously, amid the issues, the camp of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte denied that the identity of “Mary Grace Piattos” will allegedly be revealed if the impeachment trial pushes through.
