A public hospital in La Carlota City is facing a complaint after a grandfather accused medical staff of improperly stitching the wound of his eight-year-old grandson.
The incident involved the Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital, where the child was first brought for treatment.

According to the child’s grandfather, the boy was on his way home from Don Vicente Elementary School late on January 7, 2026. While riding on the back of an electric bike, the child’s foot accidentally got caught in the tire, causing a deep cut.
The family immediately rushed him to the nearby hospital for medical help. The grandfather claimed that upon arrival, the child was left waiting for a long time before receiving proper attention.
Family members reportedly approached the nurses several times to ask for help. When the nurses finally attended to the child, they cleaned the wound but left shortly after, despite the child still being in pain.

It took more than 30 minutes before medical staff returned following another complaint from the family.
A doctor later examined the wound and proceeded to stitch it. The family was advised to have the child’s foot X-rayed and to clean the wound daily at their local health center. The next morning, the child underwent an X-ray, which showed no broken bones.
However, when the child was brought to the rural health unit in San Enrique for wound care, medical workers noticed signs of infection. The family was informed that the stitching may not have been done properly.

Due to the worsening condition, the child was taken to South Bacolod General Hospital. Doctors there performed another procedure to remove the silk thread used in the earlier stitching, which was found embedded in the flesh. The operation was successful, and the child is now recovering.
The grandfather appealed to hospital staff to be more careful and responsible in treating patients, especially children.
