Former Sen. Antonio Trillanes Claims There’s Now Alleged “Global Shift Away from Dictators”
ANTONIO TRILLANES – The former Senator reacted to the advice of Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte to the Filipino people.
Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte remains detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court, more popularly called ICC, since March 2025. The former Chief Executive is faced with three (3) counts of murder as alleged crimes against humanity filed by the ICC prosecutor.

Duterte previously applied for an interim release but it was rejected by the ICC. The confirmation of charges hearing of the former President was recently held from February 23 to 27 but he skipped the legal proceedings.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte waived his right to personally appear at the confirmation of charges hearing. According to him, he does not recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC over him. At the hearing, Duterte was represented by his lead counsel, British-Israeli lawyer Nicholas Kaufman.

Since March, the Duterte siblings were taking turn in visiting former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte inside the ICC detention facility in The Hague, Netherlands. Currently, it is the turn of Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte and Kitty Duterte to visit their father.
During an interview in The Hague, Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte gave an advice for the Filipino people to pick the next leader who has the same qualities like his father, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. His remarks earned different reactions and former Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV has reacted to it.

Former Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV is one of the staunch critics of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. According to News5, the former Senator claimed that the Filipino people should not choose a Duterte as the next president to preserve democracy in the country.
“Nagkakaroon na ngayon ng… global shift away sa mga diktador… Kasi kung tatanungin mo… even ‘yung mga supporter ni Duterte, tanungin niyo sila — umasenso ba ‘yung buhay niyo noong panahong ‘yun? Gumanda ba ‘yung buhay? ‘Di ba hindi?” the former Senator said based on the post.

Recently, 18 people who claimed that they are allegedly former marines who have served former House of Representatives Budget Appropriations Committee chairman Zaldy Co said former Sen. Trillanes IV allegedly gave money to the ICC.
