Legal counsel of Anne Curtis issues an official statement.
Gorriceta Africa Cauton and Saavedra, the legal counsel of Anne Curtis, issued a public statement condemning the remarks of Bong Suntay.
Quezon City 4th district Rep. Jesus “Bong” Suntay controversial remarks about Anne Curtis have angered many. It was spoken in a way that is malicious and objectifying, and recently, the legal counsel of the actress released a statement denouncing the remarks of Suntay.

The statement was shared on the Facebook page of Gorriceta Africa Cauton and Saavedra on Friday. In the statement, Curtis’ legal counsel called Suntay’s recent remarks “inappropriate and unacceptable.”
The lawyers said Curtis has built her career and public life on professionalism, integrity, and respect for others, noting that over the years, the actress has earned the goodwill and trust of the public not only through her work but also through the way she carries herself both on and off screen.
Accordingly, such remarks made by the lawmaker are clearly inappropriate and unacceptable. The lawyers emphasized that no woman, whether a public figure or a private citizen, should be publicly spoken about in that manner. The nature of the remarks was degrading and has no place in any forum, especially in Congress, where public officials are expected to uphold dignity and maintain respectful public discourse.
The law firm added, pointing out that Philippine laws already recognize the importance of promoting respect and dignity for women in all spaces, such as the Safe Spaces Act and the Magna Carta of Women. These ensure that women are treated with dignity.
The statement added, “It is therefore especially unfortunate that these remarks surfaced during National Women’s Month, a time when the nation is called upon to reaffirm its commitment to gender equality and the dignity of women.”
