Verbena PH Devastated Several Parts Of The Country, Thousands Were Affected

Thousands of people were devastated by Verbena PH combined with shear line.

VERBENA PH – Many were struggling due to the aftermath of the combined shear line and the tropical depression.

The shear line and tropical depression Verbena brought heavy rains, severe flooding, and widespread disruptions since November 24. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), more than 46,000 people have been affected.

Based on initial reports, 15,363 families were forced to contend with flooded homes, impassable roads, and sudden evacuations. The bad weather also forced widespread class and work suspensions.

In Southern Cebu, severe flooding was triggered again following the huge flood caused by the previous strong typhoons that wiped out houses. At least 2,291 individuals or 714 families were also evacuated in Eastern Visayas.

In Bacolod, a house was swept away by floodwaters, and this was caught on video. Residents were not able to do anything to save it because of the strong current and deep waters.

Meanwhile, in the latest update posted at 8 PM, Verbena has intensified into a tropical storm, moving west northwestward at 20 km/h.

Several local government units in the region have continued to suspend classes from kindergarten to high school in both public and private schools. The suspension, which has been in place since Monday, is a precautionary measure due to persistent rains and the threat of flooding.
