Toby Tiangco Believes Marcos Jr. Not Involved in Flood Control Corruption: “Naturally, people protect their relatives”

TOBY TIANGCO – The Navotas City Representative expressed his belief that President Bongbong Marcos is allegedly not involved in the flood control corruption.

Recently, Zaldy Co accused Marcos Jr. and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez anew by posting the alleged “deliveries” of billions of money to them. The former House member previously claimed that Romualdez allegedly told him not to return to the country as instructed by the President.

Co is faced with flood control corruption accusations. He was one of the government officials named by contractors Curlee and Sarah Discaya during a Senate flood control hearing as alleged recipients of flood control kickbacks. Amid the calls for him to return to the country, he resigned from being the representative of Ako Bicol Partylist in the lower chamber.

Amid the accusations of Zaldy Co against Pres. Bongbong Marcos and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Navotas City Rep. Toby Tiangco expressed his belief that the President is not involved in anomalies in the flood control projects funded by the government. According to him, he even witness Marcos Jr. chiding then-Speaker Romualdez.

Based on a report on GMA News, Cong. Toby Tiangco claimed that during a family lunch in Malacañang on November 24 last year, Pres. Bongbong Marcos allegedly confronted then-Speaker Martin Romualdez. He was present at the said lunch as his wife, Michelle Romualdez-Yap, is a cousin of both the President and the Speaker.

“Martin, you and Zaldy—how many houses in Forbes (Park) do you plan on buying? How many planes do you need? How many Ferraris do you want? How much money do you want? How much caviar can you eat?” Tiangco said referring to Marcos Jr.’s alleged statement to Romualdez.

Cong. Toby Tiangco also expressed his claim while Marcos Jr. is allegedly not involved in the supposed flood control corruption, he is faced with a challenge to prove to the people that he is not protecting former Speaker Romualdez. He stressed that it is natural for people to protect their relatives but the President allegedly wants to show the people that no one is above the law.

“Naturally, people protect their relatives. But the President wanted to show the public that he would not shield his cousin and that no one is above the law,” he said.

Furthermore, based on the report, Cong. Toby Tiangco also recalled the alleged statement of Pres. Bongbong Marcos to then-Speaker Martin Romualdez. According to him, he also allegedly heard the President telling his cousin that he is supposedly not taking any money.

“You and Zaldy are taking in so much. The corruption in the House has become outrageous. You know for a fact, Martin, that I don’t get anything from any of that,” he expressed.

Previously, Pres. Bongbong Marcos assured the Filipinos that former Speaker Martin Romualdez and his allies will not be spared from the flood control probe.
