Grandpa & Grandson Arrested for Illegal Gambling During Oplan Galugad

Authorities Arrest Grandpa & Grandson in Valenzuela City for Illegal Gambling

A grandpa and his grandson were arrested by the Valenzuela City Police Station Sub-Station 9 for illegal gambling called cara y cruz.

Cara y cruz is a traditional Filipino street game that involves tossing coins and betting on the result. The game is simple, fast, and commonly seen in informal gatherings or street corners. However, since people usually wager money, police consider it illegal gambling.

Recently, two men, a 25-year-old and his 60-year-old grandfather, were arrested by the Valenzuela City Police Station Sub-Station 9 after they were caught playing the illegal game cara y cruz in Barangay Karuhatan, Valenzuela City.

The arrest took place as part of Oplan Galugad, a regular police operation aimed at clearing communities of unlawful activities.

Police officers found the two men in an empty lot along Padrigal Street in Area 6. They were caught in the act of gambling, using three coins for the game and betting money amounting to P340.

During the check, authorities discovered that the younger man was carrying a .38 caliber revolver. The firearm had no serial number and was loaded with three bullets. He could not even present any papers to prove that he was allowed to carry or own the weapon.

It raised additional concerns, as unregistered firearms are often linked to other criminal activities.

Both suspects were brought to the police station for proper documentation. They were later taken to the Valenzuela Health Center for their medical examination, which is a standard procedure for arresting individuals.

The police shared that they would coordinate with the Firearms and Explosives Office to verify whether the gun is legally registered and to check if the suspect has any firearm license. The revolver will also undergo a ballistic examination by the NPD Forensic Unit. The process will help determine if the weapon was used in previous crimes.
