Man Tries to Rob a Store in Valenzuela City After Failing to Find Work
A man admitted to breaking into a small store in Barangay Paso de Blas, Valenzuela City, saying he only wanted to get money for fare back to his province.
The suspect shared that he had been in Manila for almost a month but still couldn’t find a job, leaving him desperate and unsure of what to do next.
Barangay officials and police caught him inside the store early Monday morning. When authorities arrived, they instructed him to come out, but he was hesitant at first, as if still trying to figure out how to explain his actions.

According to the Chief of the Investigation and Detective Management Section of the Valenzuela Police Station, the store owner became suspicious when she came home and saw slippers and an umbrella inside the shop.
Knowing they weren’t hers, she immediately sought help from barangay officials and patrolling police officers. Responders arrived quickly and found the suspect inside, leading to his arrest.
Police said the man entered through one of the store’s windows. When questioned, he admitted that his intention was to steal so he could have enough money to go back to Tacloban.
He said he left for Manila hoping to find work and had told his grandmother that he would do his best. A friend had promised to help him look for a job, but only the friend was hired, leaving him empty-handed and discouraged.
With no job and no money, he decided it was better to return home, but not having fare pushed him into committing the crime.
The store owner is determined to pursue charges. The suspect, who is now detained at the custodial facility of the Valenzuela Police Station, will face complaints of trespassing and entering a dwelling without permission.
