JUST IN: Marcos Jr. Declares State of National Calamity due to #TinoPH, Upcoming Typhoon

Following Wrath of Typhoon Tino, Marcos Jr. Approves NDRRMC’s Proposal to Declare State of National Calamity

MARCOS JR. – The President declared the State of National Calamity due to Typhoon Tino and the looming super typhoon.

Visayas and Mindanao were recently hit by Typhoon Tino that brought massive flooding in Cebu and Negros provinces. In Cebu, the flash flood urged countless residents to climb their rooftops for safety after the floodwater reached the roof of the single-storey houses.

Several cities in Cebu were submerged in floodwater leaving massive destruction to properties. After the typhoon, vehicles were spotted colliding against each other and even piled up due to the flood.

The strong winds brought by Typhoon Tino also led to the destruction of several houses. According to Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro, over 100,000 residents were evacuated during the typhoon.

Cebu Gov. Pam Baricuatro is angry over the massive flooding in the province citing that the budget for the flood control projects was P26 billion. According to her, most of the flood control projects in the province since 2019 are allegedly either substandard or ghost projects.

Typhoon Tino Cebu

Following the wrath of Typhon Tino in Cebu and several other provinces in Visayas and Mindanao, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council or NDRRMC proposed to Pres. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to declare a state of national calamity.

The proposal of the NDRRMC to Marcos Jr. came amid an upcoming typhoon in the Philippines named as “Typhoon Uwan”. Reportedly, the storm has the possibility of becoming a super typhoon.

Based on a recent post of ABS-CBN News on social media, Marcos Jr. declared a state of national calamity in the Philippines due to Typhoon Tino and the looming super typhoon. Typhoon Uwan is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Friday.

“Uwan” is the 21st typhoon to hit the Philippines this year. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA, it continues to move west northwestward outside the PAR. Currently a tropical depression, it is expected to rapidly intensity and has the possibility of becoming a super typhoon before making a landfall over Northern and Central Luzon this week.

Following the series of calamities that hit the Philippines, Marcos Jr. also has an order to government agencies with regards to the Christmas and year-end celebrations.
