More Than 100 Students & Teachers Allegedly Suffered From Food Poisoning During Educational Tour
More than 100 MSEUF students and teachers from Lucena City fell ill during their educational tour in the province of Leyte.
Several students and teachers from Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) in Lucena City were suspected to have suffered from food poisoning during their educational tour.
According to the Leyte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), over 50 students remain in the hospital in Baybay City after experiencing stomach pain, vomiting, and other symptoms of food poisoning on Wednesday afternoon (October 22, 2025).

Initial investigation revealed that the group had come from Kalanggaman Island in Palompon, Leyte. The symptoms reportedly began as they were returning to Baybay City.
The university administration assured that all affected students and teachers from the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management are now in stable condition and recovering well.
Thanks to the quick response of the Baybay City local government, everyone received proper medical attention at the Immaculate Conception Hospital. The vice mayor, city administrator, and tourism officer personally helped in ensuring that the victims were taken care of.

MSEUF expressed its gratitude to the Baybay City Government, medical teams, and local agencies for their quick assistance and compassion during the incident.
The university also praised the Lucena City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) and the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) for their readiness to provide support if needed.
University officials said they are continuously monitoring the condition of the affected students and teachers. Many of them are now recovering and waiting for medical clearance so they can safely return to Lucena City.
Authorities are still investigating the source of the food that may have caused the poisoning to prevent similar incidents in the future.
