Marcos Jr. Says Fight against Corruption Won’t Be Easy But “It Will Be Worth It”

MARCOS JR. – The President claimed that the fight against corruption in the government will not be easy but will be “worth it”.

Amid the flood control issue in the Philippines, Pres. Bongbong Marcos ordered the creation of an independent commission that will investigate the issue and the other infrastructure projects funded by the government. The President also called on the concerned agencies to ensure that the evidence are enough to imprison those who are involved in the supposed multi-billion flood control scam.

Following the creation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure or ICI, the independent body that was created for the infrastructure probe, the House of Representatives decided to stop its flood control investigation. The Senate continued its probe but has yet to resume its hearings since Senator Ping Lacson resigned from being the chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.

Several senators and congressmen are tagged in the issue. Both the Senate and the House of Representatives changed their leaderships amid the supposed multi-billion flood control scam.

Presidential cousin and Leyte Congressman Martin Romualdez resigned from being the House speaker amid the accusations of flood control corruption hurled against him. The former House Speaker is one of those who appeared before the ICI for the flood control probe.

Recently, amid the flood control issue in the Philippines which has shaken the trust of countless Filipinos towards the government, Marcos Jr. stressed that the government can still be trusted amid the flood control issue. He made the remarks during the awarding of the 10 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos in Malacañang.

Based on a report on PhilStar, the awardees include teachers, police officers, and soldiers. They are the following:

At the tail-end of his speech, Marcos Jr. raised a “difficult question” — if the Filipino people could still trust the government despite the corruption issues in the country. He then referred to the awardees.

“To that, I say: Look at these men and women. In their service, you will find your answer. Because of them, we are reminded that hope is never lost, that integrity lives in our institutions, that honor still defines what it means to be a Filipino,” the President said.

Based on the report, each of the 10 awardees received a Medallion of Excellence, P1 million, and “The Flame” trophy. According to Pres. Bongbong Marcos, every honest teacher, soldier, and police officer is a success against the corruption and cynicism that plague our country.

Marcos Jr. said the fight against corruption will “not be easy”. According to the President, the Filipino people will still have to face a lot of challenges but he believes that the fight will be worth it for the future generations.

“Marami pa tayong haharapin, marami pa tayong pagdadaanan. It will be hard and sometimes it will be painful, but it will be worth it because what we are fighting for is a country that our children will inherit [and] a nation that they can be proud of, that they can be proud to say I am Filipino,” the President said.

Recently, Malacañang spoke on the flood control probe of the ICI as well as the take of Marcos Jr. on it.
