Marcos Jr. Says Gov’t “Can Still Be Trusted” amid Ongoing Cleansing of Ranks

Pres. Marcos Jr. Speaks at Awarding of Outstanding Filipinos in Malacañang

MARCOS JR. – The President claimed that the government “can still be trusted” amid the ongoing cleansing of ranks.

The supposed multi-billion flood control corruption in the Philippines brought thousands of Filipinos in the streets to protest last September 21. Many people who call for an end to corruption in the country joined the “Trillion Peso March”.

Amid the flood control issue in the country, Pres. Bongbong Marcos ordered the creation of an independent body that will investigate the infrastructure projects funded by the government. It led to the formation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure or ICI.

The ICI is composed of three members led by former Supreme Court Justice Andres Reyes. Malacañang recently claimed that the ICI flood control probe is “going well” and Marcos Jr. is satisfied about it.

According to Malacañang press officer undersecretary Claire Castro, while the President is satisfied with how the ICI flood control probe is going, he will not block suggestions that could improve the investigation. She also believes that it is better if the commission will have more teeth.

The ICI have invited several government officials into its flood control probe. It conducted closed-door hearings and many of its invitees have responded to the invitation. One of them is former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

According to Romualdez, he will help in any way he can to speed up the resolution of the issue. He resigned from the House speakership amid the allegations that he supposedly received “kickbacks” from the flood control projects.

Not only the House but as well as the Senate had a change of leadership amid some senators being tagged on the issue. Several officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways were dismissed amid the supposed corruption. The DPWH became the center of criticism when the issue broke out.

Recently, Pres. Bongbong Marcos led the 2025 Metrobank Foundation’s Outstanding Filipino awarding ceremony in Malacañang. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Marcos Jr. assured that the government “can still be trusted” amid the ongoing cleansing of ranks.

“Kasama po kayo sa aming inspirasyon upang magsumikap na itama ang mga nakagawiang mali sa gobyerno… Patuloy tayo sa paglilinis ng hanay ng pamahalaan upang matiyak na ang bawat opisyal, bawat lingkod-bayan ay karapat-dapat sa tiwalang ibinibigay sa kanila ng taumbayan,” Marcos Jr. said.

However, recently, a private citizen reportedly urged the ICI to investigate First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos over her alleged involvement in the flood control projects.
