Sarah Discaya, Curlee Discaya Face Tax Evasion Complaint

Another complaint was filed againt Sarah Discaya and Curlee Discaya

Contactors Curlee and Sarah Discaya are now facing tax evasion complaint that the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) filed against them.

The couple was government contractors, having numerous projects with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). Their transactions with the flood control projects were called out.

President Bongbong Marcos presented the “anomalies” in these projects after many areas in the Philippines suffered from the widespread flooding last July. St. Gerrard Construction, owned by the Discayas, was one of the mentioned companies allegedly involved in the anomalous flood control projects.

Because of that, Curlee and Sarah Discaya were present during the Senate inquiry on this matter. They named some senators and congressmen who were allegedly involved in the anomalies, such as Quezon City First District Representative Arjo Atayde.

Just recently, based on the report from PEP, the Dicayas are facing another complaint. On October 8, Wednesday, BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. confirmed through a Facebook post that the Discaya couple did not pay PHP7 billion worth of tax.

“Batay sa imbestigasyon ng BIR, may kabuuang PHP7.1 bilyong tax liabilities ang mag-asawang Discaya, kabilang ang hindi nabayarang individual income taxes, excise taxes ng siyam na luxury vehicles, at documentary stamp taxes,” Lumagui wrote in his post.

The commissioner anticipated that more anomalies will be discovered involving the Discayas. The agency continues to conduct auditing in Discayas’ companies. Aside from the St. Gerrard Constructions, the couple also owned other construction companies with different names.

“Ang hindi pagbabayad ng buwis ay isang mabigat na paglabag sa batas, at sisiguraduhin naming mapanagot ang mga sangkot.” Lumagui said.

The BIR Commissioner also asked people to share information if they know contractors who are not paying their taxes properly.
