Former Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson Speaks on 2022 Campaign of Pres. Bongbong Marcos
CHAVIT SINGSON – The former Ilocos Sur Governor revealed his alleged role in what led to the presidency of Pres. Bongbong Marcos.
In 2022, the tandem of Bongbong Marcos and Sara Duterte united their supporters and earned them both the victory in their respective races. However, their ties was cut short. In 2024, the Filipino people began to notice a souring relationship between the President and the Vice President.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has also thrown tirades countless times against Pres. Bongbong Marcos and the administration. It came after she resigned from being the secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) and left the Marcos Cabinet.
The rift between highest and second-highest officials in the Philippine government deteriorated further over the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Duterte. She and her camp believe that the Marcos Jr. admin allegedly want her out as she is the “frontrunner” of the 2028 presidential race.
Pres. Bongbong Marcos claimed that he has no role in the impeachment process of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. He also denied influencing his allies over the matter. According to the Chief Executive, he himself may be impeached if he will do it.
Amid the Philippines dealing with the flood control mess, former Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson revealed his alleged role in what led to the presidency of Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Based on a post of Cinema Bravo, the former Ilocos Sur Governor claimed that Marcos Jr.’s initial target was the vice presidency.
“Ikwento ko na lang paano naging presidente itong BBM. Tinawag ako ni Sen. Imee Marcos, ‘Manong Chavit can you help us for the reelection of Bongbong dahil dinaya lang?’sabi niya,” Singson said.
According to the former Ilocos Sur Governor, he agreed to help Marcos Jr. and told Sen. Imee Marcos to call the leaders in the North. They scheduled a meeting at the residence of the Marcoses.
“Tinawag nila sa bahay nila dumating ang mga congressman, governors, mayors. Sabi ni Sen. Imee, “Thank you for coming so we could start the early campaign of Bongbong for vice president dahil dinaya siya,” the former Governor said.
At the press con, former Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson claimed that he was allegedly the one who introduced the plan that led Bongbong Marcos to file his candidacy for the presidency. According to him, the plan was for Marcos Jr. to slide down in case then-Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte will also run for president.
“Alam natin lahat, napakalakas ni Sara ngayon walang kalaban. Now, gusto mo vice president? Mag-campaign na tayo nang maaga. Mag-file ka ng vice president, marami kang makakalaban niyan. Kung si Sara sa president wala ka ring laban at the time. So ang suggestion ko, mag-file muna tayo for president para pag nag-file si Sara, you slide down for vice president protected ka na,” he said.
The Former Ilocos Sur Governor endorsed the BBM-Sara tandem in 2022. However, recently, amid the flood control mess in the country, he has been throwing tirades against the President. He claimed that the flood control probe should start in Ilocos Norte and Marcos Jr. is part of the problem with regards to the issue. Chavit Singson also urged the students to boycott their classes until all corrupt officials in the government resign.
