Amid the Flood Control Mess, DPWH Proposed Fund for 2026 Slashed Following Review
DPWH Chief Vince Dizon cut the proposed flood control fund of the agency by P255 billion and suggests its reallocation to other programs.
The Department of Public Works and Highways earned massive criticisms amid the flood control mess in the Philippines. Then-DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan resigned from his position amid the calls for him to leave his post.

Bonoan is replaced with DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, a former secretary of the Department of Transportation. Right after his appointment to the agency, DPWH chief Vince Dizon said he will order the courtesy resignations of all of the officials of the agency nationwide.
According to Dizon, the order will include all the undersecretaries, assistant secretaries, division heads, and district engineers nationwide. He also confirmed that he will abolish the internal investigation committee of the agency.

Amid the budget deliberations of the Senate and the House of Representatives, Pres. Bongbong Marcos ordered the “sweeping review” of the proposed budget of the DPWH for 2026. DPWH Chief Vince Dizon and the Department of Budget and Management immediately worked on the review of the agency’s proposed budget amounting to P881.3 billion.

Recently, the revised proposed budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways for 2026 was revealed. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, following the review of the proposed fund, DPWH Chief Vince Dizon approved the slashing of P255 billion from the proposed budget of the agency for flood control projects.
From P881.3 billion, the proposed budget of the DPWH is down to P625.8 billion after a nearly 29% cut. In a letter addressed to House Speaker Martin Romualdez, DPWH Chief Vince Dizon said that the P255 billion that were originally proposed to fund the flood control projects of the agency may now be reallocated to other projects and programs.

Based on the report, Dizon particularly cited the healthcare, education, agriculture, information technology, and social welfare sectors as possible recipients of the slashed fund from the DPWH budget proposal. The DPWH Secretary confirmed that he will be attending the House budget deliberations scheduled today, September 17.
Amid the flood control mess, several government officials including Quezon City Congressman Arjo Atayde and DPWH officials were accused by the Discaya couple of allegedly receiving kickback from the flood control projects.
