South Cotabato Man Survives Coconut Blow While Filming Video
SOUTH COTABATO – A video shoot meant to capture the joy of picking coconuts ended with a hospital visit for one unsuspecting man.
A fun-filled video shoot in Banga, South Cotabato, took a sudden and surprising turn when a man was accidentally hit on the head by a falling coconut. The mishap occurred while content creator Ernesto Soriano Basinga, popularly known as Enzo, was filming a Reels video with his relatives. The idea was simple—harvest coconuts, record the process, and post it online. But what started as a lighthearted activity quickly turned into a worrying situation.
Basinga shared that he was up in a tree picking coconuts, assisted by his brother-in-law, while his cousin handled the camera. Standing nearby was their relative, Richard, who was watching the process. As one coconut came loose, it unexpectedly dropped and struck Richard directly on the head.
Although visibly hurt, Richard initially managed to smile for the camera. His family immediately placed ice on the injury, but when dizziness set in, they decided to take him to the hospital for further examination.
Medical professionals conducted both an X-ray and a CT scan to ensure there were no severe injuries. They noted that being hit on the head by a coconut can lead to anything from a mild concussion to serious skull fractures or internal bleeding. Health experts further advised against applying pressure to the head if a fracture is suspected and stressed the importance of monitoring consciousness and breathing before seeking urgent medical attention.
Thankfully, Richard’s tests came back clear, and he has since fully recovered. His family was relieved that the incident did not lead to lasting harm.
Reflecting on the event, Basinga emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety, particularly when producing online content. “Safety should always come first,” he remarked, adding that while the incident was unexpected, they now have both a memorable story and a video that captures the moment.
What began as a simple, cheerful content idea now stands as a cautionary tale, showing that even seemingly harmless activities—such as picking coconuts—can carry hidden dangers.
