Kuya Kim Atienza Says No to Politics on Threads
KIM ATIENZA – TV host Kuya Kim Atienza recently emphasized that he wants his online space to remain neutral despite growing political tensions in the country.
Television host and weather presenter Kim Atienza clarified that he prefers to keep his Threads account as a “safe space” and avoid political discussions on the platform for now.
In a recent post, Kuya Kim explained that he wants his Threads timeline to remain “apolitical” despite the differing beliefs and opinions of his followers online. His statement came amid heated discussions involving celebrities and social media personalities reacting to the ongoing tensions in the Senate surrounding Ronald dela Rosa and the impeachment issues linked to Sara Duterte.
“I do not like politics,” he began.
Wika ni Kuya Kim, “You may be pink, yellow, or DDS; let’s keep Threads the way it was, apolitical.”
“Respect for everyone regardless of political stance. Thanks, kids. Love you all,” he said.
While many netizens understood his point, others criticized the TV personality for choosing to avoid political conversations during a controversial time in the country.
One commenter wrote: “Apolitical in times like this? Respecting different views, sure. But calling out injustice isn’t ‘being political’ for a lot of people; it’s just being human. Staying quiet to keep things comfy isn’t exactly neutrality. That’s not being matanglawin; that’s choosing to look away.”
Kuya Kim quickly responded with: “Not here, please. Usap tayo sa X.”
Another commenter also challenged his stance by saying, “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.”
The television host then clarified his position further and explained that while he may have personal opinions, he simply chooses not to discuss them on Threads.
“Ohh, I am not neutral, but my Threads timeline is. It is a safe space for everyone regardless of color,” he explained.
Despite the criticism, several supporters defended Kuya Kim and respected his preferred use of the platform.
One supporter stated, “I think Kuya Kim wants his Threads to stay supportive of the youth who need help emotionally and mentally. I am active in political discourse, and I support good governance and denounce the Duterte-Marcos tandem. But I support Kuya Kim’s preferred use of his Threads. He already mentioned that his political views are on X. So dun natin siya iask.”
Kuya Kim’s response was a simple “Thank you.”
The celebrity dad has recently become active in mental health advocacy following the passing of his youngest son, Emman Atienza, last year. He also recently received a certificate as a mental wellness facilitator after completing a mental health training program. Among his recent efforts were helping a distressed individual and offering to shoulder the psychiatrist consultation of a netizen.
