Pres. Bongbong Marcos Breaks Silence on SC Ruling on Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s Impeachment Case
BONGBONG MARCOS – The President claimed that the Supreme Court ruling on the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has no bearing on the merits.
Nineteen (19) senators voted to archive the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte following the decision of the Supreme Court. Prior to the opening of the 20th Congress, the high court declared the Articles of Impeachment against the Vice President as “unconstitutional”.

According to the high court, the impeachment complaint against the Vice President did not follow the one-year rule in the Constitution. The ruling is immediately executory but a motion for reconsideration may be filed.
Some complainants and the House of Representatives have filed a motion for consideration. Thus, the lower chamber urged the Senate to exercise “prudence and patience” and wait for their appeal.

The decision of the Supreme Court gained different reactions from the people including senators and members of the House of Representatives. Following his reelection in the speakership, Speaker Martin Romualdez called on the House members not to “bow in silence” over the decision of the Supreme Court while they recognize the ruling.

Recently, Pres. Bongbong Marcos who is accused of allegedly masterminding the impeachment moves against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte broke his silence on the ruling of the Supreme Court. The President and Malacañang have denied several times his alleged role in the impeachment process.

“We have to make very, very clear to everyone that the Supreme Court decision does not have any bearing on the rightness or wrongness in the impeachment case. Accountability doesn’t come into it here,” the President said.
Furthermore, Pres. Bongbong Marcos also stressed that the Supreme Court allegedly did not decide on the merits of the case. Based on the report, he pointed out that the high court meant the procedure.
“It just talked about procedure. So the procedure was faulty, was lacking. So that is the assessment of the Supreme Court,” Marcos Jr. said.
