According to the Palace Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Dave Gomez, the decision of Pres. Bongbong Marcos aims to “to protect local farmers reeling from low palay prices during this current harvest season”.

The Filipino rice farmers claimed that the low costs of palay prices are allegedly due to rice imports. Based on the report, the government no longer caps the rice importation but imposes tariffs instead. The agriculture officials have previously proposed for the increasing of the rice tariff.

However, according to Malacañang’s PCO Secretary, Pres. Bongbong Marcos said it is not yet time to discuss the increase on tariff for imported rice. Based on the report, the Palace Official said the matter may be decided on in the future but for now we will stick to the current order of the President.

Prior to the government achieving the affordable rice for Filipinos, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that the P20 per kilo rice is doable but she refused to share her knowledge with Pres. Bongbong Marcos.
