According to Escudero, they have agreed to decide on the matter next week so the senators will have “ample and sufficient time” to study the decision of the high court. The Supreme Court declared the Articles of Impeachment against Duterte “unconstitutional” with a 13-0 voting among the justices.

“It was agreed in caucus that the matter will be decided upon by the Senate on August 6, 2025, when we open session on that date in order to afford ample and sufficient time to the members to study the 97-page Supreme Court decision,” the SP said.

Based on the report, the Supreme Court also found that the articles of impeachment violated the right of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte to due process. Amid its decision and findings, the Court emphasized that its ruling does not dismisses the impeachment charges filed against the Vice President.

The decision of the court was in response to the petition filed by Duterte and Atty. Israelito Torreon among others seeking for the dismissal of the impeachment case against the Vice President. Previously, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero aired his personal stand on the SC ruling over the impeachment case of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
