Kitchie Nadal Shares the Heartfelt Reason Behind Her Life in Spain
KITCHIE NADAL – In a heartfelt interview, Kitchie Nadal discloses the intimate story behind her unexpected move from Manila’s music scene to the streets of Madrid.
OPM rock legend Kitchie Nadal recently spoke about her major life decision to move to Spain during an episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” aired on Monday. In the interview, the singer revealed the deeply personal reason behind her 2017 relocation—choosing to leave her music career in the Philippines to follow love and prioritize her family life.
Kitchie shared that her move to Madrid was motivated by her relationship with Spanish national Carlos Lopez, whom she met while volunteering during the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda.

“Love. Of course, love,” Kitchie said. “I married a Spanish guy. Nagkakilala kami during Yolanda. We were both volunteers. And then ‘yon, ang bilis na-develop.”
Their bond quickly deepened, which eventually led them to get married and start a family.
“He decided to stay and then we got to know each other more. And we got married. We had a baby. When we had a baby, we decided to move to Spain,” she shared.
Now based in Madrid, Kitchie finds joy in the slower pace and family-focused way of life.
“I’m really happy. Kasi iba ang lifestyle doon eh. I was able to focus on my family, hands-on with the kids like everyone. Ang dami kong natutunan doon—house chores, lahat, multi-tasking,” she said. “I really love how I was able to focus on them.”
Even though she stepped back from the mainstream spotlight, Kitchie remained connected to her music by performing in smaller, more personal events for Filipino communities overseas.
“Syempre mas maliit siya, but for me fun nga siya kasi parang ang ìntìmate. And then parang feeling ko ang meaningful ng dating kasi you get to unite the Filipinos there,” she said.

When asked about potentially moving back to the Philippines, she remained open and hopeful: “Anything is possible. We’re open to anything.”
Best known for her timeless tracks like “Same Ground” and “Huwag na Huwag,” Kitchie Nadal continues to be a beloved figure in the OPM scene. After marrying in 2015 and becoming a mom in 2017, she now enjoys a serene life in Spain, often posting snippets of her family moments on Instagram.
