Authorities Arrest 2 Young Individuals for Stealing Guard’s Gun
Two young individuals, aged 21 and 22, were arrested after stealing a security guard’s gun in Rodriguez, Rizal.
Last weekend, two friends reportedly stole a security guard’s firearm in Barangay Balite, Rizal. The guard was on duty at a gadget store when the theft happened.
According to the police, the security guard briefly went home to use the bathroom. Because he didn’t have a permit to carry his gun outside the store, he decided to leave it at his post. Unfortunately, this was when the two suspects made their move. It turned out they had passed by the area several times and had observed the guard’s routine.
“Yung kanyang baril, ayon sa kanya, iniiwan niya roon sa kanyang pwesto dahil wala nga siyang permit to carry, natatakot siya na mahuli, ito palang mga suspek ay dumadaan-daan na rin doon sa kanyang area at namanmanan na siya,” Rodriguez Municipal Police Station chief Lt. Col. Paul Sabulao said.
CCTV footage showed the two men walking away from the gadget shop shortly after the theft. This helped authorities identify and locate them. The police conducted a follow-up operation, working with the barangay to gather information.
One barangay official recognized one of the suspects, as both of them had been involved in several theft complaints in the past.
The two were eventually caught in the same barangay, and the stolen firearm was recovered from them. During questioning, they admitted to the crime. They claimed they found the gun near the stairs and planned to sell it for P2,000.
They apologized and asked for forgiveness, but the police emphasized the importance of filing charges to stop further crimes. According to the authorities, the suspects had gotten used to stealing as a way to earn money.
Now in police custody, the two are facing theft charges. The police are urging victims not to drop their complaints, as letting such behavior slide may only encourage more people to do the same.
