Kapuso actress Carla Abellana shares her story about how her “narcissistic ex” negatively impacted one of her dogs while they were still together.
One of the most vocal celebrity animal welfare advocates in the country is Carla Abellana. She’s a dog lover herself and would always encourage people, through her online platforms, to adopt dogs from pounds to give them a second chance to enjoy life and experience how to live freely without worrying about when to eat again.
As of 2025, she now has six dogs and six cats. As the celebrity ambassador of PAWS Philippines, she shared that her love for animals began at home. She saw how her family had always been loving and compassionate towards animals.
However, just recently, she shared a story about her “narcissistic ex” and one of her pet dogs.
In a post where the user shared her own experience, the actress also shared hers. According to her comment, it took over seven years before she finally realized the implications of what was happening. One of her dogs was “most abused” by her “narcissistic ex,” and she regretted not getting out early when the signs were already there right in front of her.
She only noticed the better changes when they finally got out, and her dog’s reactions and behavior also changed for the better. She admitted, “I was blind for that long.”
The actress shared, “Now, my dogs no longer shake out of terror, hide behind me or underneath the bed, cling to me whenever they’re afraid, no more tails tucked underneath their bodies, and no more ears pushed back.”
She is thankful to God for paving the way for them to get out and be happier.
Meanwhile, years after her marriage failed, Carla is now ready to love again; however, this time around, she will become more careful. She has more things to consider, and if she ever finds a partner again, she would want someone who has integrity, is honest, and respectful.
“Dati kasi sabi ko, ‘oh you just follow your heart’ and she did that and follow your thoughts and she also did that and yet she was fooled. Ang hirap, eh, so ano pang advice ang maibibigay ko sa kanya?” Carla’s mom said.
