Van Driver Lost His Life After Being Run Over While Inspecting Vehicle
A van driver has lost his life after being run over while inspecting the vehicle he was driving in Rodriguez, Rizal.
On early Saturday morning (June 21, 2025), a 51-year-old van driver dies in Barangay Mascap, Rodriguez, Rizal after he was reportedly run over by the passenger van he was driving after stepping out to check a noise coming from underneath the vehicle.
According to police, the van was headed toward a camping site with 13 passengers on board. The road was wet due to rainfall the night before, making the area slippery and dangerous, especially on the uphill stretch where the van passed.
As the group climbed a steep road, the driver noticed a banging sound from under the vehicle. Once they reached a flat area, he got out to inspect it. Unfortunately, he forgot to engage the handbrake.
Without anything to hold it in place, the van rolled backward, dragging and running over the driver. The van eventually tipped on its side.
Witnesses said the driver shouted for someone to pull the handbrake, but the passengers panicked, unaware of what to do. All passengers survived without injuries, but were shocked and confused after losing sight of the driver.
When asked about the driver’s locations, passengers said he had stepped out. Moments later, responders discovered his lifeless body trapped under the van, with only his legs visible. His head had been crushed.
A backhoe was used to lift the van and recover the victim, who was declared dead on the spot. He was a resident of Dasmariñas, Cavite.
Co-workers of the victim appealed for improvements to the road, which they said lacked safety signs and was too narrow in certain areas. They warned that poor visibility and dangerous blind spots put both drivers and passengers at risk.
