Minimum Wage Earners to be Included in Program Allowing Filipinos to Buy Rice at P20 per Kilo
GOVERNMENT PROGRAM – Minimum wage earners in the Philippines can soon buy rice for only P20 per kilo starting June 2025.
Recently, the Department of Agriculture Spokesperson Arnel de Mesa announced that Filipino minimum wage earners will be included in the government’s program that allows people to buy rice for only P20 per kilo as part of efforts to help more families cope with rising food prices.
Previously, the P20 per kilo rice program was only available to senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), solo parents, and members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

However, the program will now be expanded to include minimum wage workers across the country.
The Department of Agriculture and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) worked together to make this possible. DOLE provided an official list of minimum wage earners who will benefit from the program.
This will help ensure that only qualified individuals receive the support.
Each eligible worker will be allowed to purchase up to 10 kilos of rice per month at the discounted price. This is expected to bring some relief to families who rely on daily wages to make ends meet, especially with the increasing costs of basic goods.
The rice will be made available through government outlets and authorized retailers, with guidelines in place to monitor fair distribution.

With this program, the government hopes to ease the burden of living costs and help ensure that every Filipino, especially low-income earners, can have food on their table.
“Galing sa DOLE iyong listahan at ang inisyal din na napagkasunduan ay bibigyan ng pagkakataon na makabili ng 10 kilo ng bigas kada buwan iyong mga minimum wage earner,” De Mesa said.
