Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte won as Davao mayor despite his detention in The Hague, Netherlands. The former President is currently faced with an allegation of crimes against humanity before the International Criminal Court.

The ICC has set the confirmation of charges against Duterte on September 23. His family members take turn in staying in The Hague, Netherlands to visit him. It was Vice Pres. Sara Duterte who immediately flew to The Hague following the arrest of the former Pres. last March 11.
Vice Pres. Duterte stayed in The Hague for more than three (3) weeks. She returned to the country in April and fervently campaigned for the senatorial bets of former Pres. Duterte’s PDP-Laban.

Five (5) candidates endorsed by Vice Pres. Sara Duterte won in the 2025 Senatorial Elections. They are reelected Senators Imee Marcos, Bong Go, and Bato dela Rosa and senators-elect Camille Villar and Rodante Marcoleta.

Aside from former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the former President’s eldest son, Davao City First District Congressman Paolo Duterte, was also reelected while his younger brother, outgoing Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte, won as vice mayor in the city.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s children and grandchildren previously held a family meeting for their thanksgiving following multiple victories in the 2025 Elections. Congressman Paolo Duterte’s sons, Omar and Rigo, also won government positions in the city.

Omar Duterte will join his father in the House of Representatives after winning as congressman of Davao City’s second district. Rigo Duterte won as city councilor and, based on a report on Manila Standard, will be the acting vice mayor of his uncle Baste.

Based on the report, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte revealed her advice to her nephews who were elected in the 2025 Elections. Both of them are first-timers in the government.
“That’s all I can advise them since they are also in public service—to make the lives of the people of Davao City better. They have to serve the people well and make their lives better,” she said.
Previously, amid the political turmoil in the Philippine government following the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Pres. Bongbong Marcos claimed that he is open to reconcile with the Duterte family.
