SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President denied that she campaigned for self gains and for former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

Vice Pres. Duterte who returned to the Philippines from The Hague in the first week of April is faced with a looming impeachment trial. Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero previously said that the proposed start of the trial is on July 30.

According to Vice Pres. Duterte, her legal team for her impeachment trial has been set even before the March 11 turn of events. Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was arrested last March 11 and was brought to The Hague, Netherlands.

Former Pres. Duterte is currently under the custody of the International Criminal Court in The Hague. He is faced with an allegation of crimes against humanity due to his administration’s war on drugs.

Upon her return to the Philippines, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte met with her lawyers who are “more than confident” to win the impeachment trial. Afterwards, she joined campaign sorties and campaigned fervently for her senatorial slate.

Vice Pres. Duterte endorsed the senatorial bid of Senator Imee Marcos, the PDP-Laban bets, and Las Piñas Representative Camille Villar. According to her, her Senate slate is composed of senatorial candidates who share the same vision of a peaceful and prosperous Philippines.

Recently, after casting her vote for the May 2025 Elections, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte spoke in a chance interview with the press. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, she denied campaigning for her self gains or for the benefit of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

“Hindi ko naman siya tiningnan na gano’n, hindi ko tiningnan na nangampanya ako para sa issues ko o sa issue ni dating pangulong Duterte, dahil ang isyu ko lang naman ay impeachment,” she said.

Based on the report, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte reiterated that she is ready whether she would be acquitted or pronounced guilty of the impeachment trial. Aside from being removed from office, the senator-judges may have the power to bar Duterte from public office.

Previously, Malacañang stressed that the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is not in the hands of Pres. Bongbong Marcos. The Palace also tagged the confidence of the lawyers of the Vice President as a strategy.
