Fake ‘Retired Judge’ & Fixer Caught Extorting Seniors in Baguio City

Authorities Arrest Fake ‘Retired Judge’ & Fixer for Extorting Senior Citizens

A fake retired judge and a fix were arrested for extorting money from an elderly couple in Baguio City.

The authorities arrested a woman pretending to be a retired judge, along with her accomplice, after they were caught extorting money from an elderly couple. The victims, who had an ongoing land dispute case in Isabela, were approached by a fixer who claimed he could help resolve their legal issue.

According to the couple’s report to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the fixer promised to connect them with a retired judge who allegedly had strong ties to higher courts. He claimed that this “judge” could influence the outcome of their appeal and secure a favorable decision.

The scheme started when the couple was asked to pay an initial amount of P30,000 for what the fixer described as a “slot” in the case.

Eventually, the total demand reached P200,000. However, the couple grew suspicious when the fixer began pressuring them for more payments.

The victims consulted a contact at the City Prosecutor’s Office, who was familiar with the real retired judge. This person confirmed that the judge being mentioned had a good public reputation and would never engage in such schemes.

Soon after, the victims personally met the real judge and confirmed that her name was being falsely used. With the help of the NBI, an entrapment operation was set up. The fixer was first to fall into the trap, unaware that he was speaking to the real judge.

The woman pretending to be the judge arrived to collect the remaining payment and was arrested on the spot.

Three more individuals came forward claiming to have been victimized by the same suspects. Both now face charges of robbery-extortion and cyber libel.
