Leni Robredo endorsed the candidacy of Manny Pacquiao and Benhur Abalos
The decision of former Vice President Leni Robredo to endorse the senatorial candidates Manny Pacquiao and Benhur Abalos received negative comments from her supporters.
Former VP Leni is one of the most prominent political figure in the Philippines. She is a well-respected public servant with a wide following. In the 2025 elections, the former Vice President opted to run for a local position even though some of her supporters expected that she will run for Senator.
Recent reports stated that Robredo has announced her support for Pacquiao and Abalos who are running under the administration’s team.
It is known to many that former VP Leni Robredo and elected President Bongbong Marcos had a tight competition in the 2022 elections.
Based on the report from Inquirer, on Wednesday, April 23, the Naga City mayoralty candidate officially endorsed Pacquiao and Abalos. She said that Abalos have been longtime friends. “Let’s support him in his candidacy. We will vote for him in his bid for the Senate,” Robredo said about Abalos.
The former VP also said that she has always been behind Pacquiao. Robredo stressed that she knows Pacquiao and she knows he is sincere. She added that the boxer-turned-politician is “very king” and “trustworthy.”
These endorsements did not sit well with Robredo’s supporters. On X, formerly Twitter, netizens expressed their thoughts on Robredo’s decision to endorse the candidates running under the ticket of her former race rival.
Some netizens said that they understood why Leni Robredo did this but it does not mean that they would follow her decision while some netizens straightly called out the former VP because they are questioning her decision. Here are some post on X that are about this matter.
