Noli de Castro shared his thoughts on fake news
Veteran journalist Noli de Castro asserted that true journalists will stop the spread of fake news.
Noli has been in the broadcasting industry for several decades already. His career as a news reporter/anchor is well established with what he has experienced throughout his years in the industry.
Many younger journalists have looked up to him and he was an inspiration to them. Over the years, he witnessed the improvements and changes in the industry and this included the spread of fake news or misinformation, especially with social media being easily accessible to many people.

Based on the article in Balita, Noli de Castro was asked by sports news presenter Migs Bustos if journalists like them are in danger because of fake news.
“Kasi tayong mga tunay na journalist, tayo ang sasalo doon sa kasinungalingan ng mga fake news. ‘Di ba, correct? Iko-correct natin, itutuwid natin ‘yong mga fake news na ‘yon, eh without us, eh wala, sinong magko-correct, wala? ‘Di ba?” the veteran journalist said.
He added that traditionla media – radio, television, print – should correct the fake news. “Ang importanteng role ng journalist na makorek nila ang mga lumalabas na mga balita katulad noong pinalabas natin kahapon sa TV Patrol,” Noli stressed.
He also pointed out that without journalists, some people will have a hard time knowing what is true. Noli said that without the correction from true journalists, people will believe in lies.
Meanwhile, aside from being a journalist, Noli de Castro also served as Vice President of the Philippines from 2004 until 2010. After serving as the second-highest elected official in the Philippines, Noli returned to being a broadcaster. In 2021, he filed his certificate of candidacy as a senator but, later on, he withdrew.
