Man in Tawi-Tawi Suffers Injuries After Being Bitten by Crocodile
A 27-year-old man sustained severe injuries after being bitten by a crocodile in Panglima Sugala, Tawi-Tawi.
On Monday (February 3, 2025), a man in Tawi-Tawi suffered serious wounds and injuries due to crocodile attack. The incident raised concerns among the online community.
According to the victim’s family, the man was sitting on the veranda of their home when a crocodile suddenly leaped from the sea and bit him. The force of the attack caused the man to fall into the water.

His family recounted that they were unaware of the crocodile lurking nearby until it attacked. The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer, Sarima Atara, confirmed that the crocodile was large enough to jump from the water to the open area of the house.
“Nag-upo sila sa veranda tapos hindi nila namalayan na meron palang buwaya sa dagat. Tapos ‘yung kinagat na siya, nahulog siya sa baba ng dagat,” the victim’s relative said.
The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors stitched up his wounds. Thankfully, he is now in stable condition and recovering from the terrifying ordeal.
Residents attempted to locate the crocodile after the incident but were unsuccessful. Reports from the community reveal that this is not an isolated case, as seven other people have reportedly been bitten by crocodiles in the same barangay.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has acknowledged a growing problem with crocodile infestations in the area, particularly with an increasing number of saltwater crocodiles.
“Sabi nila malaki daw kasi, kaya niyang tumalon mula sa dagat patungo sa open sala ng bahay ng biktima,” MDRRM Officer Sarima Atara said.
Barangay Buan has already sought assistance from the provincial government to address this escalating issue.
