68-Year-Old Man Marries 20-Year-Old Granddaughter of His Friend

68-Year-Old Man Elicits Reactions After Marrying 20-Year-Old Granddaughter of His Friend

A 68-year-old man went viral and elicited reactions online for marrying the 20-year-old granddaughter of his friend.

In Sarangani Province, a unique love story with a huge age gap circulated on social media and garnered various reactions from the online community.

Amil Sampulna, 68, tied the knot with Jinly Improgo, his friend’s 20-year-old granddaughter. Despite their 48-year age difference, the two have built a happy life together, even welcoming two kids. Their youngest child was born just on November 13.

Their relationship started when Jinly was only 18. Over time, they got closer, and Jinly eventually said yes to Amil. But not everyone in their community is on board with their love story. Some feel Jinly could’ve done more with her life instead of settling down so young.

Others worry about the challenges of being with an older partner, especially with such a big age gap.

“Sayang po kasi pumatol po siya sa matanda. Marami pa po siyang puwdeng gawin sa kaniyang buhay,” a villager said.

Still, Amil and Jinly are making it work. They’ve been together for two years now, raising their kids and running a simple household. Jinly handles the chores, like cooking and cleaning, while Amil farms bananas and vegetables to support their family.

“Nagkaroon kami ng anim na anak, may mga asawa na. Masakit ‘yan sa damdamin. Kaya gusto kong makapag-asawa dahil gusto kong magkaroon ng anak ulit,” Amil said.

He earns around P100 to P300 a day, which he uses to provide for their needs. Life may not be easy, but they’re facing it together, one day at a time.

“Sa pagtingin ng lipunan kasi, ang pag-aasawa, halos magkaedaran. Kaya ‘pag mahaba, malayo ang agwat, medyo hindi katanggap-tanggap ng lipunan. But still, when both parties are in the right frame of mind, alam nila kung ano ang kahihinatnan. Tunay na pag-ibig ‘yun. Sino tayo para mag-judge sa kanilang pagmamahalan,” Sociologist Dr. Gerald Abergos said.
