75-Year-Old Grandpa Inspires Many Netizens for Completing Marathon Wearing Worn-out Shoes
A 75-year-old grandpa from Dagohoy, Bohol, inspires many netizens after completing a 25-kilometer marathon wearing worn-out and tattered shoes.
On October 5, 2024, Quirubin Amaga Abella finished a half-marathon in two hours, impressing fellow runners and netizens with his determination, even while wearing shoes that were barely holding together.
Lolo Quirubin, a boxing trainer and father of five, has long been passionate about running despite his age. Many were moved by his story and expressed their desire to gift him new running shoes.
However, the viral grandpa shared that he prefers his old, broken shoes, joking that the holes help drain water when it rains while he runs. Still, he is deeply grateful for the generous offers of new shoes and plans to share them with the young runners he trains. Quirubin’s selflessness has only increased admiration for him.
A sports brand from Davao City is currently looking for Lolo Quirubin, wanting to gift him new shoes and other gear for his next race. The brand’s message resonated with many online, as they expressed their support for the “super TATAY”.
“Help us to find tatay. Meron lang po kaming munting regalo na ibibigay para sa ating super TATAY! Walang impossible,” the brand said.
The elderly athlete is set to join another 24-kilometer run on November 3, 2024, and it’s certain that more people will be watching and cheering for him as he continues to share his love for running.
“Thank you Mayor Doc Hermie Cajes Relampagos sa inyung pagsupporta ni papa unta dghan mga batan.on nga ma inspire nga mo apil ug athletic nga kalihukan kaysa mo sud sila sa bisyo ilabina sa druga,” Rhea Abella Brown said.
