Meanwhile, based on the 8 PM update from PAGASA, Signal No. 5 was hoisted in Catanduanes and the northeastern portion of Camarines Sur (Caramoan, Garchitorena, Lagonoy, Presentacion).
Pepito has a maximum sustained winds of 195 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 240 km/h. It may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday morning or afternoon.
It will make landfall over Catanduanes as a super typhoon at or near peak intensity and in Aurora as a super typhoon or typhoon. It will likely weaken to a typhoon category and will remain as it is as it passes over mainland Luzon tomorrow and throughout the passage.
At 7 PM, Pepito’s center was spotted over the coastal waters of Gigmoto, Catanduanes moving northwestward at 20 km/h.
PAGASA noted, “It must be emphasized that heavy rainfall, severe winds, and storm surge may still be experienced in localities outside the landfall point and the forecast confidence cone.”
