Police Authorities Arrest Two Women Over ‘Snatch Me’ Modus in Davao City
Two women were arrested in Davao City for their alleged involvement on “snatch me” scheme to steal company money.
The incident started when one of the suspects, identified as “Ana,” was caught on CCTV stashing bundles of cash in her bag, supposedly to deposit it at a remittance center. However, she later reported to the police that she was robbed and her bag was snatched.
As police investigated, they noticed some odd details in her story. Ana claimed she didn’t know who snatched her bag, whether it was someone on foot or on a motorcycle, which the police found strange.
“Na-snatch daw ang bag niya and hindi niya alam kung sinong nag-snatch, either on foot or naka-motorcyle. Hindi niya alam, which is very unlikely. Doon pa lang nakita na natin, suspicious na ang mga statement,” Talomo Police Station Chief, Major Genesis Oriel said.
Plus, CCTV footage from the supposed robbery spot showed her crossing the street as two people on a motorcycle grabbed her bag. But when officers spoke with people in the area, like security guards and tricycle drivers, their statements didn’t match Ana’s claims of causing a commotion and getting hysterical after the bag was taken.
After further questioning, Ana admitted the whole robbery story was fake. It turns out her partner, known as “Mona,” who used to work at the same company, was in on the plan. Mona’s sibling, who snatched the bag on the motorcycle, is now on the run.
Although police recovered most of the cash, about P69,000 was still missing.
The investigation revealed that Ana and Mona were planning to leave the country and were driven by financial motives. Police have advised business owners to run background checks before hiring to prevent these types of incidents.
The company, meanwhile, is pressing charges against the two women and pursuing charges against Mona’s sibling.
