Here’s what President Bongbong Marcos said about these upcoming cyclones.
PRESIDENT BONGBONG MARCOS – The government is accordingly prepared for the three cyclones set to batter the Philippines.
In the previous PAGASA update about Nika, several areas in Luzon were put under Signal No. 1, 2, 3, and 4. It has an international name Toraji and along with the strong wind and heavy rain it brings, PAGASA also warned of flooding and landslides in high-risk areas.
According to the update, Nika will continue moving west northwest over the West Philippine Sea and exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Tuesday morning, November 12. However, before Nika’s exit, a tropical depression may enter PAR and would be named Ofel.
It will likely develop into a typhoon before making landfall over northern or central Luzon and while crossing the Philippine Sea late Thursday or early Friday. The state weather bureau also said that a third cyclone named Man-yi will also enter PAR after Ofel which could likely happen before the weekend and locally, it will be called Pepito.
The third cyclone may head to Bicol or Eastern Visayas.
With these three cyclones set to hit the Philippines, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Monday that the government is prepared for this series of tropical cyclones. According to the president, they have been monitoring the effects of Nika in Isabela and Aurora and the relief goods and other needed equipment are now ready for those who will be affected.
With Ofel coming which is said to be a stronger one, Marcos added that they “just have to continue to prepare”.
“Ngayon, sinasabi natin, mag-isip-isip tayo kasi kung aayusin natin, tapos sisirain na naman ng susunod na bagyo, sayang lang ‘yung ating ginawa. So kailangan natin mag-plano. Pero ‘yung mga tao, kailangan na may kuryente, kailangan na may food supply, kailangan na may tubig, kailangan na ayusin ang kanilang buhay,” he expressed.
With these three cyclones expected to lash in the country, he appealed to the people to listen to their local government and authorities on what to do during this difficult time. He assured that the government is ready to respond as soon as possible.
