PAGASA Says Another Typhoon May Enter PAR After Nika’s Devastation
PAGASA – The state weather bureau reported that another typhoon may enter PAR and make landfall over Luzon after Nika.
On Monday (November 11, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services announced in its 11 a.m. bulletin that another typhoon is seen to develop into a typhoon.
PAGASA reported that the tropical depression will be named “Ofel” when it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility. It is expected to make landfall over Luzon.
The tropical depression was last spotted 1,480 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas. It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour with gustiness of 70 kph. It is moving moving west-northwestward at 35 kph.
“This tropical cyclone is forecast to steadily intensify in the next three days and reach typhoon category on Wednesday. It may also hit land at or near its peak intensity,” Pagasa said.
The weather system may strengthen in the next three days and reach the typhoon category by Wednesday (November 13, 2024).
“On the forecast track, the tropical depression may make landfall over Northern or Central Luzon on Thursday evening or Friday early morning,” the weather agency added.
Meanwhile, Typhoon Nika traverses Northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph. It was spotted in the vicinity of San Agustin, Isabela, moving northwestward at 25 kilometers per hour.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 was still up in seven areas:
- the northernmost portion of Aurora
- the central and southern portions of Isabela
- Kalinga
- Mountain Province
- the northern portion of Ifugao
- the central and southern portion of Abra
- the northern and central portions of Ilocos Sur
Nika is set to leave PAR by Tuesday morning or afternoon (November 12, 2024), according to PAGASA.
