This is accordingly the first railway project to be completed under the administration of President Bongbong Marcos.

The first phase is connecting Baclaran Station in Pasay City to Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque City. This extension is said to reduce travel time by 30 minutes from Baclaran to Santos Avenue. Moreover, the travel from Quezon City to Paranaque City will be reduced to less than an hour. According to their projection, it can serve an additional 80,000 passengers on a daily basis.

The five new stations added are:

  1. Redemptorist Station
  2. MIA Station
  3. Asia World (PITX) Station
  4. Ninoy Aquino Station
  5. Dr. Santos (Sucat) Station

The LRT-1 carries around 320,000 passengers daily and the added stations are expected to increase this to 400,000 daily.

As for Phase 2, it will open Las Piñas and Zapote Stations while Phase 3 is the Niog Station in Bacoor, Cavite. A timeline for these projects is yet to be announced.

“We hope that this opening of the extension of Line 1 will help alleviate traffic as it will be able to support thousands of passengers, additional passengers taking LRT Line 1. And this will be our early Christmas gift to the residents of the area,” the transportation secretary said.

In an interview, the opening will be on November 16. As of the moment, there are no discussions about free rides yet. The focus is more on operational and safety matters.
