Here’s what Imee Marcos said about the rocky relationship between the president and the vice president.
Senator Imee Marcos was asked about the controversial relationship between President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte.
Former political allies President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte are seemingly in quite a rocky relationship. In a previous article, Duterte said “never again” to teaming with Marcoses.
According to the vice president, there was no friendship at all prior to the moment they became running mates for the 2022 elections. They just talk about the campaign and their work.
“Ang kaibigan ko talaga si Senator Imee Marcos, kilala niya ako since 2012,” Duterte said. Weeks after this remark, Marcos Jr. admitted that he was “a little dismayed” about it. He thought they were friends and he felt that he was deceived.
Recently, the female Marcos senator was asked about this. Aware of this tension between the two leaders of the country who are both close to her, she showed a hands-off approach when asked.
She’d rather not fuel the fire. She expressed, “Kapag may dalawa kayong kaibigan ‘di nagkakaunawaan, gagatungan mo pa ba? Palagay ko hindi ano.”
As a loyal friend and a loyal sibling, she’d choose not to say anything as she believes that they can speak for themselves. She admitted that she is trying to talk to her brother and give him pieces of advice.
“Lagi kong sinasabi napakabait ng kapatid ko. Pero palibhasa mabait huwag naman pinagsasamantalahan,” she said.
Amid all the issues between the former allies, she still wanted the Uniteam to work. It was a dream that happened in 2022 that aims for unity among the people and the government and she is still holding on to this dream.
To recall, the partnership turned sour because of differences in certain policies like confidential funds for Duterte’s office, a push for charter change, and the issues in the West Philippine Sea with China.
