Jeepney Driver Offers Free Ride to Student Who Helped Him During Pandemic, Saying, “Dahil sa inyo nagkabigas at ulam kami”
HEARTWARNING STORY – A jeepney driver offered a free ride to a student who had helped him during the pandemic.
Recently, Facebook user, Eddniel Patrick Ilagan Papa, a sociology student, shared his experience on October 8, 2024. He recounted how the driver recognized him from a community pantry event during the height of COVID-19.
While reviewing for an exam on a jeep headed to Calamba, Eddniel offered his fare, but the driver refused to accept it. Curious, he asked why, and the driver explained that he remembered Eddniel helping at the community pantry during the pandemic.
The driver shared that the pantry provided them with much-needed food, such as rice and viands, during that difficult time.
The student was surprised that the driver recognized him, especially since it had been almost three years. He recalled that the driver recognized his voice from when he organized the pantry line, reminding people to only take what they needed.
Eddniel shared that volunteering has always been a part of his life, especially during disasters. His passion for helping others was further strengthened by his studies in sociology at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños.
Patrick emphasized how sociology helps in understanding social issues and responding to the needs of the community.
He encourages the youth to continue helping and standing up for those in need, believing that their generation can bring about meaningful change.
